Bongile Bho faced great hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, through farming,
she discovered a passion for business and established a sustainable livelihood for herself and her family.

Sifiso Nkwanyana is the hard-working founder of Dokodweni Farming (Pty) Ltd. He lost his job
as a truck driver during the COVID-19 lockdowns, and returned to the family home in Zululand
to revitalise the family farm.

“This is a good place to farm,” says Lizwi Dube, who established his own farm on the banks
of the Nyalazi River in 2019.

Imahlobo Co-operative is a farming co-op with a long history and great importance to the
women of Nzalabantu Reserve in Kwambonambi.

We learned the skill of planting the land from our grandparents. It’s our way of life,” says
Catharine Mbokazi, Chairperson of a group of women who established a farming co-op in
Zululand in 2011.

Mtolo Farming was founded in 2014 by Anton and Lindiwe Fakude with the plan of creating a
business that would serve the whole family.
